1994 Channel Drive — Frequently Asked Questions

Installation, activation and licence steps live in the Installation & Activation guide.

25 questions.

What is 1994 Channel Drive?

An analog channel strip plugin by Implicit Division Audio. Drive, Emphasis EQ and a fast 4-band console EQ in one tactile channel path, tuned for 90s console saturation.

Read the DSP overview

What makes it different?

It focuses on the other console sound: practical 90s workhorse channel tone rather than the usual transformer-heavy vintage fantasy.

What is Emphasis EQ?

A pre-drive tone curve that changes what enters the saturation stage, so the drive reacts differently depending on what you emphasize before the circuit.

Which operating systems and plugin formats are supported?

1994 Channel Drive supports Windows 10 version 1607 or later and Windows 11, 64-bit, in VST3 format. On macOS 12 Monterey or later, it supports AU and VST3 with native Intel and Apple Silicon support. A compatible host application is required.

How does the trial work?

The plugin is fully functional for 14 days from its first launch. After the trial expires, it periodically emits low-level noise until activated with a valid licence.

How do I activate my licence?

Open 1994 Channel Drive in your DAW. Open the Settings menu using the gear icon and select “Register”. Enter the email address associated with your purchase and the complete serial number from your licence email, then click “CONFIRM”. An internet connection is required to complete activation. Successful activation displays “Registered. Thank you!”

Is this a subscription?

No. 1994 Channel Drive uses a perpetual licence purchased with a one-time payment.

How many computers can I activate?

Each licence allows up to two activated computers. This is a computer activation limit, not a limit of two plugin instances. To activate a second computer, install the plugin and register it using the same purchase email and serial number.

About the two-computer limit

How do I move an activation to another computer?

Install the plugin on the new computer and open Settings → Register. Enter your purchase email and complete serial number, then click “CONFIRM”. If both activation slots are already occupied, the plugin shows your activated devices. Select the device whose activation you want to replace and click “CONFIRM” to move that activation to the new computer. If a slot is available, normal activation is sufficient.

How to move an activation

Do I need access to my old computer?

No. When both slots are occupied, you can select the old device and replace its activation from the registration window on the new computer. You do not need to open the plugin on the old device first. A move replaces an existing activation rather than granting a third one, and the replaced installation stops being licensed the next time it checks in — an offline machine is not disabled remotely at that moment.

How to move an activation

How often can I move an activation?

Each licence allows up to four activation moves within a rolling 12-month period. This means the previous 12 months, not a calendar year. Your first activation, and activating into a free second slot, do not count as moves. If you reach this limit and need another move, contact support.

What if I reinstall my system or replace hardware?

If the plugin requests activation again, open Settings → Register and use your existing purchase email and serial number. If your system is recognised as a new device and both slots are occupied, follow the activation-move procedure. Contact support if you cannot complete reactivation.

Can I deactivate a computer manually?

Version 1.0 does not include a separate manual deactivation button. To replace a computer when both activation slots are occupied, use the activation-move procedure on the new computer.

What if I cannot find my licence email?

Check your spam or junk folder and confirm which email address you used at checkout. If you still cannot find it, contact support with your purchase email and order details.

What does the licence allow me to do?

A licence is for your own use on up to two activated computers, and moving an activation between your own computers is not the same as transferring licence ownership to another person. Sharing serial numbers or accounts outside your licence is not permitted. Music you make with a validly licensed copy is yours, with no further payment or credit to us.

Where are my presets, and how do I restore the factory presets?

Presets are stored in Windows: Documents\IDA DSP\1994 Channel Drive\Presets and macOS: ~/Documents/IDA DSP/1994 Channel Drive/Presets/. The folder is created and factory presets are copied there when the plugin is first opened. To restore the originals, open Settings and select “Restore factory presets”.

Are CLAP, AAX or Linux versions planned?

CLAP and AAX versions are planned for 2027, and Linux is not currently available or guaranteed. Current releases are VST3 and AU only; planned formats are not a commitment to a release date.

What does the DRIVE control do?

DRIVE pushes the channel path harder, creating more density, saturation and transient movement. At low settings it stays clean. At higher settings it becomes thicker, more harmonically active and more forward.

Is Emphasis EQ before or after saturation?

Emphasis EQ is before the drive circuit. It shapes what enters the saturation stage.

Read: pre-emphasis and de-emphasis

What does the 4-band EQ include?

Fixed high and low shelves plus semi-parametric high-mid and low-mid bands for fast console-style tone shaping.

What is ADAA (Antiderivative Antialiasing)?

A DSP technique that reduces aliasing from nonlinear stages by integrating the nonlinearity analytically between samples, resulting in smoother, more analog-like saturation with far less aliasing.

Read: ADAA explained

Why does advanced oversampling improve the sound?

Driven saturation generates harmonics far above the original signal. Oversampling runs the nonlinear stage at a higher internal rate so those harmonics can exist and be cleanly filtered out, so pushed drive stays musical instead of turning gritty and digital.

Is the DSP component-level virtual analog?

Yes. Drive, Emphasis EQ and Console EQ are modelled at component level as a virtual analog channel — not static waveshapers or fixed digital filters.
